Jeremiah Cloud, son of William Cloud and Susan James, born in Calne, Wiltshire, England on February 7, 1658.[1]
Emigrated to the United States in 1682 aboard the ship "Unicorn" out of Bristol,[2][3][4]
He married Elizabeth Bailey in 1685, in Pennsylvania. [5][6]
September of 1681, William Penn, conveyed to William Cloud; yeoman, of Wiltshire; 500 acres of land, located in New Castle County; Province of Pennsylvania; in which said tract of land lay south of Naaman's Creek[7]; and which Jeremiah Cloud, intended recipient for the original 500 acres of land, located in New Castle Co., Pennsylvania; should his father William Cloud die; with one consent requesting '"that ye whole might be Confirmed to one of them viz Jeremiah Cloud, son to William Cloud"." [To whom it is now patented July 20, 1713]"[7]
The minutes of the Board of Property of the Province of Pennsylvania, under date of 12mo. 1 & 2, 1702, has the following entry: "Ordered that a patent be granted to Jeremiah Cloud for 500 A's and the overplus, leaving out those two small sleps that fall in Chester County, and that John Prew be not suffered to invade his lines."[8]
In 1713, he was selected by his brothers, as the one to whom the the new patent, for 500 acres, originally purchased by their father in 1681, be confirmed. On February 15, 1713, he conveyed 200 acres of this land to his brother John Cloud.[9][6] [10]
The minutes of the Board of Property of 5 mo. 22, 1713, has the following entry: "Signed a Patent to Jeremiah Cloud for 500 acres, besides the allowance in Naaman's Creek, ordered 12th mo. 1703, dat. 20, 5 mo. Instant"[9]
