About William Algere, of Castle Brason Head
Brazen Head was a farmhouse (possibly a small manor house), not a castle, notable for an elaborate door-knocker with a lion's head. It apparently belonged to the Fitch family originally, and whether Agnes married the current holder, or whether her family had bought it and she returned it to the original family by marriage, is unknown. (Essex Review, volume 1, 1892; pp. 104-107, article by Miller Christy, F.L.S.)
The door-knocker is now in the British Museum.
