LOWVILLE – Mildred M. Zehr, 96, formerly of Valley View Courts and the Croghan – Belfort Road, died Thursday, August 23, 2012 at the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility under the care of her family and the nursing home staff.
The funeral will be held at the Croghan Mennonite Church on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at 2 p.m. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in the church cemetery. There are no calling hours. Contributions may be made to the Croghan Mennonite Church Mission Fund. Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.
She is survived by three children; Loren Zehr of Croghan; Betty and Marvin Swartzentruber of Lowville; Mary Jane Zehr of Castorland; a brother, John B. Lyndaker of Mannsville. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mildred was predeceased by her husband Michael J. Zehr; a daughter-in-law, Jane L. Zehr; three brothers, Andrew B. Lyndaker, Llewellyn Lyndaker; and Lawrence B. Lyndaker, who died at a young age; and a sister, Geneva B. Lyndaker.
Mildred was born on May 12, 1916 at home in Croghan, a daughter of the late John A. and Anna Zehr Lyndaker. She attended the #8 district school at Nick Henry Hill on the Croghan-Belfort Road. On October 6, 1937, she married Michael J. Zehr at Croghan Mennonite Church. Mr. Zehr died September 10, 1973. In 1938, the couple purchased the family farm. Mrs. Zehr worked in the Beaver River Central School cafeteria until the 1970s, when she retired due to her health. She also worked at Boise Cascade, retiring in February 1982. Mrs. Zehr moved to Valley View Courts in 1990.
Mildred and Michael were active members of Croghan Mennonite Church.
