William Tanzer, 62, a prominent resident of this village, was found dead in bed by his wife, about nine o'clock Thursday morning, when she went to his room to call him. Dr. D. O'Connor was summoned, who pronounced death due to a heart attack. On retiring on Wednesday evening he appeared in his usual health and had not complained of feeling ill. Mr. Tanzer was prominently identified with civic affairs and always took an active interest in the affairs of the village. For several years he held the office of village trustee, and had been fire warden for five years, succeeding William Waterhouse of Lowville. For many years he conducted a hardware and plumbing business, which he sold

about eleven years ago to William Burkhard and sons. Mr. Tanzer was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Tanzer, and was born in this village in March, 1872. He was the last of a family of six children. About 30 years ago he married Miss Anna Zehr, of this village, who survives, with one daughter, Mrs. William Hartnett, of Albany, and two grandchildren. He was a member of St. Stephens church.
