Age 86, died Thursday, July 31, 2008 at Riverwind Senior Assisted Living Residence in Williamston. He was born July 22, 1922 in Castorland, New York, the son of Harold L. & Martha A. (Zehr) Chaffee. Paul worked with his wife in dairy & herd testing. He participated in the Mennonite Church and attended Scio Community Church. He was the Secretary / Treasurer for the Michigan Holstein Association for many years. Paul liked to make maple syrup from his trees. On November 25, 1948, he married Alta Pauline Miller in Fairview, MI, and she preceded him in death on January 10, 2005. Other survivors include two daughters, Barbara Chaffee of Depot Bay, Oregon, Janette (Ronny) McCarter of Fowlerville; three sons, Jonathan Chaffee of Jackson, Timothy (Brenda Raham) Chaffee of Saline, Lawrence (Claudia) Chaffee of Ann Arbor; 7 grandchildren, Michael, Nichole & Robyn Chaffee, Adam & Jacob Chaffee, and Kyle & Emily McCarter, a sister-in-law, Minnie Chaffee. He was preceded in death by his sister, Clover L. Farrance, and his brother, Lloyd. L. Chaffee. Funeral services were held Monday, August 4, 11:00 am at Cole Funeral Chapel, Chelsea. Burial will follow at Oak Grove East Cemetery, Chelsea. The family received friends Sunday, August 3, from 1-4 & 6-8 pm at Cole Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the U of M Kellogg Eye Center.
