Individual Note

Barbara Chaffee of Depot Bay, Oregon. Jeri (Barbara Louise) Chaffee passed away on 11/29/2013. She was 64. Born on 11/29/1949, she was the eldest of 5 children of Paul Curtis and Alta Pauline (Miller) Chaffee of Dexter,Michigan. Pauline passed away in January of 2005, and Paul in July of 2008. Surviving brothers and sister and other family members are Jonathan of Jackson, MI, Timothy (Brenda Raham) of Saline, MI, Lawrence (Claudia Runion) of Ann Arbor, MI and Janette McCarter (Ron) of Fowlerville, MI, 7 nieces and nephews, and 3 grand nieces and nephews.

Jeri attended Dexter High School, then studied at Central Michigan University and the University of Utah before she took up photography and commercially photographed horse shows throughout the entire west.

She ultimately settled in Depoe Bay, Oregon, first working in the facilities department at Salishan Lodge on the Oregon Coast. Later, she started her own house cleaning business providing service to many "snow birds" and permanent residents who lived in the Oregon coastal areas near Depoe Bay, and forging close friendships that would last throughout her life.

For many years, Jeri rented a cottage from a friend she'd met on-the-road, and this home, which overlooked the Pacific Ocean, afforded her fresh sea air, and wonderful views of migrating whales and seals frolicking in the surf.

After retiring in 2010, she bought her own house in Depoe Bay, and devoted her time to Church activities, reading and research, Bible study, learning Hebrew and painting water colors as well as spending time relaxing and visiting with friends on a regular basis.

She will be remembered for her kindness and helpfulness, her love of art and natural beauty, her independence of spirit and quiet courage. She will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.
